The KORUS FTA also serves as an example for future free trade agreements in the area, underscoring the commitment from the United States to engagement within the Asia-Pacific region .

Other benefits of the KORUS FTA include a widening of legal and accounting markets while education and healthcare were excluded .While the agricultural benefits of the KORUS FTA seem extensive, those are primarily for the United States. The agricultural agreements are less than beneficial for South Korea, and as such aid packages for South Korean farmers is being compiled, totaling $119 billion to be dispersed over the course of the next ten years to offset the negative effects of the agreement . The growth rate of the GDP for South Korea is expected to grow by 0.6% annually for the next ten years thanks to an increase in foreign direct investment as well as heightened competition. Over one billion dollars’ worth of exports to South Korea are to duty free immediately, while the remaining tariffs are being phased out over the course of the next ten years. Consumer and industrial products between the countries will have all tariffs removed within the next three years.
